MMN participated in ASEAN People’s Forum (APF) and ASEAN Civil Society Conference (ACSC) held on 20th-22nd of February 2009, Bangkok, Thailand, and organised a photo exhibition showing undignified processes of arrest, detention and deportation of migrants across the Greater Mekong Sub-region.

Also at Consultation Workshop on ASEAN Migrant Workers, organized by the ASEAN Taskforce on Migrant Workers during the APF, Ms Jackie Pollock, MMN Chair, made a presentation to introduce the MMN’s response to ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers. She pointed out that ASEAN Declaration failed to protect the majority of the migrants in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, as it covered only documented migrants.

ASEAN Taskforce on Migrant Workers also recognized the limitation of the ASEAN declaration and encouraged the civil society to use the ASEAN Civil Society Framework Instrument which covers both documented and undocumented migrants, in their advocacy efforts with respective governments.
