Thai detains 32 Myanmar migrant workers entered from Malaysia

Thailand authorities are detained 32 Myanmar migrant workers, who illegally entered from Malaysia, sources said.

Although Myanmar migrant workers in Malaysia and Thailand returned home after COVID-19 outbreak, some are arrested by authorities. Some returned home illegally via southern Thailand through Ranong and Prachuap provinces.

“According to a tip-off by a local, the authorities found 32 Myanmar migrant workers in an oil palm plantation. They don’t speak Thai language and the man they paid left them in the oil palm plantation in the meantime. He went to find a way to go to Prachuap province. Four of them have high body temperature and four are pregnant,” said liaison officer of sister cities of Prachuap-Myeik.

The detained Myanmar workers are 24 men and 8 women.

They had been sent to the police station for further investigation. Myanmar authorities found Myanmar migrant workers illegally entered from Malaysia in Bokepyin Township in mid-July.
