13 more Myanmar workers arrested for illegal entry into Thailand

Thai authorities arrested 13 Myanmar workers for illegally entering the country by crossing the Thaungyin River in Myawady Township, Kayin State, on July 27.

Myanmar workers, after returning from Thailand during the Covid-19 outbreak, are trying in various ways to reenter the country as there are few jobs inside Myanmar. However, Thai authorities have yet to allow the entry of Myanmar workers.

Those migrant workers were usually arrested and imprisoned when they entered Thailand illegally.

The 13 Myanmar workers (seven men and six women) were arrested by a Thai army patrol in Mae Sot.

In four months from March 21 to July 28 this year, nearly 60,000 Myanmar migrant workers returned to their homeland. As they are not allowed to return to Thailand, they are trying to go back there via illegal route.

Those arrested will be handed over to Tak Province’s immigration department and legal action will be taken against them, according to sources from Mae Sot.

On July 11 also, 22 Myanmar workers were arrested for illegally entering Thailand.
