Burma’s new Trade Union Law added onto the online version of the Legally Binding booklet

Myanmar’s parliament passed the new Labour Organisation Law on 11 October 2011. Following this, workers have already started to form unions in Burma. However, as of today, no regulations on how to use this law have been passed, and thus the new law cannot be used for workers to register trade unions. MMN will keep monitoring the development on this, and shall provide updates when regulations to register trade unions are passed and are made public. Meanwhile, MMN has incorporated key elements of the 11 October 2011 Trade Union Law to the online Legally Binding: A Summary of Labour Laws in the Greater Mekong Subregion. Information concerning this new law can be found in the following sections:

Section 8 Collective Bargaining

Section 9 Trade Unions

Section 10 Dismissal
