Regional Training and Exchange

Overview

As part of our mandate, MMN organises national training on various topics to enhance collective capacity in analysing current issues and promoting migrants’ rights. Over the years, MMN has held a number of training for civil society organisations in the region, and has facilitated exchange among advocates who focus on human rights issues. Besides initiatives targeted at rights advocates, MMN also organises training for policy makers in the Greater Mekong Subregion to enhance their capacity to create and implement policies on migration from human rights, labour rights, and gender perspectives.

In 2016, MMN conducted a national-level training on migration targeted at members of civil society organisations (CSOs) of Myanmar, with the aims of expanding participants’ understanding of different types of movement and migration trends in the region, as well as their ability to critically analyse national and regional migration policies and the role of embassies, labour attachés, and other stakeholders…

In November 2015, MMN commenced a project entitled, Beyond ‘Tolerance’: Working Hand-in-Hand to Promote the Social Inclusion of Migrants and their Families, supported by the Toyota Foundation. The project was part of MMN’s long-term efforts to promote social cohesion in the region. Between 2014 and 2016, MMN collaborated with Oxfam and other supporters on a regional programme to promote the social protection of marginalised workers in the region, focusing specifically on matters of social security for migrants, access to healthcare, and labour rights protection.

On 5-7 August 2014 a Regional Exchange Program on Migration Issues was organised in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The Program was designed with acknowledgement that there is already rich expertise on migration in the region, and such capacity could be amplified by further exchanging knowledge and strategies. MMN and Mekong Institute (MI) conducted a regional training course on Labor Migration Management in the Greater Mekong Sub-region from the 1st to 18th of December, 2009, following the success of the 1st training in 2008. This training course aimed to enhance capacity of policy makers and implementers of concerned ministries in labour migration management and to foster cooperation among the concerned countries and ministries.
